  1. I never thought the day would come when I’d consider buying a Garfield book a waste of money. Don’t get me wrong, I love Garfield and will probably still buy the books, but only when I have extra cash and there’s nothing else I want to buy.

This book feels like a repeat of all other Garfield books. Old gags are simply given a fresh coat of paint and Garfield himslef seems bored by it all. It’d be better to save your money and read the comic strips online. If you really want to read this book, try a library. You’ll be glad you saved your money. Rating: 3 / 5

  2. The best Garfield strips are the original ones – the fat-cat strips. This is not an exception. Garfield at his apex. Rating: 5 / 5

  3. It has been over twenty years since I have been reading Garfield comic strips. As a child and as an adult, I have always loved his snappy comebacks at Jon, his passion for lasagna, and his bigger passion for sleeping. I still read Jim Davis’ comic strips but I haven’t bought any Garfield books in recent years. I decided to check out Garfield’s 43rd book GARFIELD BLOTS OUT THE SUN from my local library. Wow. I never thought I would be left unimpressed from a Garfield book. A lot of the panels were not laugh out loud funny like in past books. There weren’t any spider jokes which are a favorite of mine. I always loved it when Garfield would find new and inventive ways to squash spiders. As always, I miss the presence of Nermal, the world’s cutest kitten who antagonizes Garfield like there is no tomorrow. My favorite moment of the collection is when the original Garfield from 1978 comes to visit 2003 Garfield for the 25th anniversary. Wow. What a difference 25 years can make. I really wanted to like GARFIELD BLOTS OUT THE SUN but I just couldn’t. The collection of Garfield comic strips weren’t all that funny. I can’t say it is terrible but they definitely lack the magic of the early years. I give this book a mild thumbs up. Rating: 3 / 5

  4. This is a great book if you don’t get the daily Garfield comic sent to your in box. Rating: 4 / 5

  5. Just another classic Garfield book and exactly what you expect. Loads of fun as Garfield gets older and heavier! Rating: 5 / 5
