The Civilization Loop: The End Is the Beginning
I really enjoyed “The Civilization Loop”! It was a great combination of many of the mysteries of ages past. I look forward to reading Mr. Thrift’s other books. It was a refreshing change from the standard sci-fi book in that it acknowledges a Creator, always there and always with us. As for typos and grammatical issues, those are fixable, the fact that Mr. Thrift has written and self-published a novel gives hope to other aspiring writers. Rating: 5 / 5
First off, many thanks to Mr. Thrift for sending me a copy of his book, The Civilization Loop. As many of you may know by now, I will often read and review self-published books if they are about subject matter that interests me. When Mr. Thrift contacted me about his book, I was fascinated by the premise, not to mention the fact I always love a Sci-Fi read.
Let me just say that The Civilization Loop does not disappoint. I started this book yesterday and just finished it up this morning; and although I really didn’t want to stop reading it last night, in the end I had to get some sleep! I don’t know about the rest of you, but I always find the theory of time travel and its consequences (time paradoxes) to be fascinating, yet mind-blowing. In my opinion, Thrift has done an incredible job of presenting it all in his book–a gripping story that will have you questioning at least the possibility of time travel for mankind. Not only do we revisit the Pyramids and ancient Egypt as noted in the synopsis, but Thrift was also ingenious in working Roswell’s Area 51 and the lost city of Atlantis into the story. I won’t say more than that, however, because I don’t want to give away too many spoilers. Interestingly enough, Thrift has also chosen to mix a little bit of God with science, so to speak, and while this may offend some readers, I found it refreshing and very natural.
This book is not without its flaws, though I will say that they are mainly typographical and could be fixed by good editing, as is the case with many self-published books. The story itself is riveting and while various typos and awkward phrases were occasionally distracting, I did not feel that they took away from the overall story. Personally, I highly recommend The Civilization Loop if you have any tendencies towards Sci-Fi and/or time travel–it was well worth the read.
NOTE — This book received 4.5 stars on my site, Melissa’s Bookshelf. I round up for sites like Amazon that do not allow half-star increments. Rating: 5 / 5
I found this book in a list of ‘Time Travel’ novels and ordered a bunch of them, including this one. After two painful chapters I had to give it up. Aside from the numerous typos and horrible grammar, this book is just plain badly written. If I had to guess the age of the writer, it would 18 max. the characters are not even one-dimensional they’re so badly drawn, and the dialogue is infantile. Unfortunately, the premise is great and I just wish the author had collaborated with a real writer. You owe me eight bucks, Jason. Rating: 1 / 5
If you are a lover of sci fi or time travel books then this is the book for you. I read this book in three days. It was so intriguing that I just couldn’t stop reading it. This writer has a very creative mind and it takes you to all different realms of time travel. Excellent job Jason. This book is going to be a bestseller. Rating: 5 / 5
The Civilization Loop, has left me stunned by its wealth of activity and ability to keep me interested. Having downloaded the book and unable to sit at my computer to read, I was concerned I would loose my interest quickly because of my infrequent sittings. However I was wrong, I found myself thinking about the book and it characters although I had not read it in a few days. I was always on the edge of my seat always wondering what the heck was going to happen next. The chacters are very personable, and their situations extreme. The book is filled with theories of world history & its unknowns that we are too quick to simply accept as “mystery”. It is written well, to not confuse the reader. It flowed smoothly & I very much enjoyed it. Thank you Jason for writing this book.
